What The Experts Say

“Research clearly shows there are real financial and environmental benefits to be reaped from valuing our clothes more. By building on and encouraging the innovation already undertaken by collectors, re-processors, charities, retailers and local authorities, we can help protect precious resources, and save billions in the process” – Dr. Goodwin

What Is Sustainable Fashion?

Sustainable fashion is a growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability to create a system which can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmental and social responsibility. That is a part of a larger trend – ethical fashion. This is one way of explaining it but another way or ‘The best way and simplest to describe sustainable fashion is that it is about being friendly to our environment responsible with our resources and creative in our wardrobe choices.

I think this is more inclusive than the first, meaning that everyone has to get involved. Not just the producers but the consumers too. The choices we make have a far reaching effect.

As part of our R3 (REDUCE RESUE RECYCLE) ethos, we are committed to taking responsibility of our products, even after they have been purchased from us. So we offer a ‘maintain, repair, and alteration’ service to help extend the lifespan of items, thereby reducing our impact on the environment.

Together we can make a big difference!

We Can All Make a Difference

Designing clothes now requires an awareness of the environmental impact of the fashion industry. That’s why I chose to combine good design with sustainability. The clothes we wear are a direct expression of our personalities, beliefs and lifestyles. Eco-fashion has moved from the fringe into mainstream fashion.  There are 7 factors of sustainability.

Principles Of Sustainability

1. Transparency in the supply chain

2. Efficient use of water, energy and chemical sources

3. Sustainable materials

4. Safe and fair working conditions

5. Engagement with local regulations

6. Recycling

7. Analysis of the 4th Industrial Revolution automation has reached the fashion industry. (Sustainable fashion brands need to be aware and minimise impact on the workforce)
